Blue Star Ointment Reviews - What Is It?

WARNING: DO NOT BUY Blue Star Ointment Until You Read This Review!
Is it a Scam? Does It Really Work? Check Ingredients, Side Effects and More! Emily Butler

Blue Star Ointment is a product that can be for the treatment of itching and pain associated with different skin ailments such as eczema, athlete's foot, winter itch, scalp and winter itch, insect bites and stings, cracked heels, ringworm, as well as razor bumps, jock it and dry cuticles. Blue Star Ointment has its official website which says that this is a "medicine chest in a jar." However, there is no exact information about the manufacturer but it is known that the product is distributed by G. H. C. Group, LLC. San Antonio, TX 78283. Blue Star Ointment was invented in 1920 and it has been on the shelves of drugstores, retailers, and grocers across the country since the 1960s. Let us have a look at the main ingredients in the ointment to understand whether it really works.

Ingredients of Blue Star Ointment - Does It Really Work? Is It a Scam?

The only thing the manufacturer says about the product's ingredients on its official website is that its active ingredient is camphor which is cortisone- and steroid-free. Nothing else is mentioned on the issue. So, I had to make my own research and I managed to find the complete list of inactive ingredients too. They include benzoic Acid, methyl salicylate, mineral oil, lanolin oil, paraffin wax, salicylic acid, petrolatum, and aloe oil extract. I am not sure whether these components are properly combined and whether they are safe for usage, but by looking at this ingredient list I can say for sure that not all of them are natural. Chemical compounds always carry potential dangers for the human health, can cause side effects and allergic reactions. Besides, nothing is mentioned about the studies conducted on the product's components.

Blue Star Ointment

The only active ingredient in Blue Star Ointment is Camphor (12.4 mg in 1 g). Generally, it is made by distilling the wood and bark of the camphor tree. Nowadays, it can be also chemically manufactured from turpentine oil which is further added to different products such as Blue Star Ointment, Vicks VapoRub and others. Usually, such products are rubbed on the skin. Camphor is used topically to reduce itching and relieve pain. It can be helpful for the treatment of fungal infections of the toenail, hemorrhoids, cold sores, warts, and osteoarthritis.

Camphor works by increasing blood flow in the application area which reduces swelling and pain causing skin irritation. For this reason, it is prohibited to apply the substance to broken skin. Besides, entering the body camphor can cause poisoning very quickly. Although this compound is commonly used, in the 1980s camphorated oil (20% camphor in cottonseed oil) was prohibited for sale in the U.S. because of safety concerns. Camphor stimulates nerve endings responsible for itching and pain.

According to webmd.com, camphor is likely effective for relieving pain, skin itching and irritation when used in concentrations of 3% to 11%. It should be rubbed into the skin with insect stings and bites, cold sores, hemorrhoids, and minor burns. There is insufficient evidence for its effectiveness in the treatment of toenail fungus, warts, hemorrhoids and some other conditions. Camphor needs more evidence to rate its effectiveness and safety for these uses.

Customer Reviews - Does It Have Any Side Effects?

The manufacturer of Blue Star Ointment does not mention any possible side effects or adverse reactions of the product. However, this does not mean that they are absent. The product is not completely natural, so the risk of side effects is rather high. It may not be effective enough as to remove all of your skin problems. There is a high chance that Blue Star Ointment may cause irritation of sensitive skin due to its formula. It is recommended to test the medicine on a small area of skin for sensitivity. If you don't experience any irritation, use the product according to the instructions. But if there is some irritation, it is better to refuse from the usage of this ointment and consult your doctor.

Blue Star Ointment is meant for the use by adults and children over two years of age. Never use this product on younger children. When using it on children, it is recommended to dilute it with petroleum jelly to reduce the concentration of camphor, benzoic acid, salicylic acid and methyl salicylate contained in the product. Never use Blue Star Ointment on or near your nose, eyes, mouth or mucus membranes. Avoid swallowing the product but if it happens accidentally, call the Poison Control Center as soon as possible and follow any instructions you get.

The product can cause allergic reactions the most common one of which is irritation. Camphor, the active ingredient in Blue Star Ointment, can be also dangerous with its side effects, such as irritation and skin redness. Never apply camphor to broken skin, as its absorption can reach toxic levels in the body and cause seizures and even death. Children are especially sensitive to camphor side effects. This ointment should never be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Let us have a look at the main ingredients in the product.

"Blue Star Ointment gave me a terrible reaction all my skin. It was very inflamed and burning red. I would not recommend this product to anyone. I rubbed it in on my shoulders and stomach and my skin looked like after being sunburned. I had to take Benadryl and apply hydrocortisone cream to reduce the redness."

"I just got BlueStar Ointment delivered. I immediately put it on a few patches of ringworm on my arms but soon I felt burning on my skin. So, I had to wipe it off. I can still feel the burning. I am going to try another product sold on amazon. I wasn't satisfied with Blue Star."

"Blue Star ointment was shipped very quickly, but the quality of the product leaves much to be desired. The cream has not helped my ringworm at all. It burns too much and contains sallycic acid which is to blame for burning my skin."

Where To Buy Blue Star Ointment?

The product can be purchased from a number of retail stores including Walmart, Walgreens, GNC and some others. Amazon sells Blue Star Ointment For Ringworm (2 Oz) for $7.65 ($3.83 / ounce). It also offers free shipping.

My Final Summary

I cannot recommend Blue Star Ointment to usage because it has a number of drawbacks. My major concern is the great number of users' complaints about the side effects they experience when using the product. Manu customers report not feeling any improvement in their symptoms when using the product. I would advise looking for a more effective and safer anti-itching medicine available on the market.

Affordable Alternative

Many doctors consider that the problem can be well solved by another product known as Revitol Eczema Cream. I completely agree with them because I study many products of the kind! I recommend you reading my review about Revitol. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
